Venue 1 - BRTC

  • Eliminate offset court 3 and add 2 new courts that would line up with courts 1 & 2. Have the bleacher section added between courts 2 & 3. Cover the bleachers on the east side of the pro shop and extend the covering through courts 1-4.
  • Eliminate offset court 12 and add 2 new courts that would line up with courts 10 & 11.
  • Add 4 new courts that would start just south and west of courts 10 & 11. This would include elevated viewing of 8 courts.
  • Gut the current pro shop and fully modernize this facility to accommodate a small sandwich, snack, and beverage area. This also includes adding windows around the entire exterior to accommodate good viewing of many tennis courts; and add external doors to the restrooms. This modernized facility can be rented to individuals or groups for parties, weddings, and special events. This facility will also serve as the event headquarters for BRTC tournaments.
  • Build a new 2 story pro shop (approximately 30x30) on the south side of the current pro shop. This shop will offer a full line of tennis equipment and apparel. The 2nd story will be used for mentoring children for after school study and activities. A cover and railing could be added for rooftop viewing of events.
  • Build a large children's playground area (similar to McDonalds) within the fenced in area of the BRTC.

These improvements will make the BRTC one of the premier facilities in the state of Texas. This 22 court configuration including 4 covered courts will make Lubbock a "go to" location for larger events and thus have a positive economic impact for the City of Lubbock.

  • Venue 2 - Aquatic pool - Olympic size swimming and diving events. Covered with a "bubble". Public facility.
  • Venue 3 - Lighted Walking/Jogging trail approximately 1 1/2 miles running throughout the city owned property.
  • Venue 4 - 8 Lighted workout stations located along the walking/jogging trail.
  • Venue 5 - 4 Lighted Basketball/Volleyball courts.
  • Venue 6 - 4 Lighted horseshoe pits.
  • Venue 7 - 2 Lighted Beach Volleyball courts.
  • Venue 8 - 9 Hole Disc Golf Course.
  • Venue 9 - Paddle Boat rental on playa.
  • Venue 10 - Skateboard Rink for "Big Events" and section for beginners and intermediate boarders.

Additional facilities needed:

  1. Expanded parking of the current BRTC area.
  2. Parking for the Aquatics and Skateboard areas.
  3. 2 Public restrooms on LAFTA grounds.

The "completed" vision of LAFTA will make Lubbock the home of one of the premier public facilities in Texas and therefore the entire United States. The BRTC is the "Crown Jewel" of the project. These LAFTA venues will not only grow Tennis in the Lubbock region, they will allow big tennis, aquatics, skateboard, basketball, and other sports events to be hosted by Lubbock. The economic impact will be felt by our city.
